One of the world’s most luxurious private islands, North Island Resort in the Seychelles, is joining the relaunched The Luxury Collection as its first resort
Located amongst Seychelles’ inner granitic islands, North Island is privately owned by the North Island Company. The Luxury Collection is a leading members-only club managed by ASMALLWORLD that specializes in luxury and international travel. In the past it boasted a portfolio of world-famous hotels and resorts – and now North Island will be the organization’s first property in its portfolio after its relaunch.
According to Bruce Simpson, MD of North Island, “We are delighted to join The Luxury Collection. North Island is the perfect fit for a brand that stands for such exclusive luxury, while recognising the importance of sustainable development, and we look forward to building on the position of the island as one of the world’s most aspirational private-island destinations.”
North Island already has a reputation for its magnificent white sand beaches and tropical interior filled with coconut palms and indigenous takamaka trees. The island nestles between 3 granite outcrops that oversea the turquoise sea.
The resort itself features just 11 exclusive private villas, each offering panoramic views of the sea and every facility to enjoy a relaxing, intimate island experience in an extremely sumptuous setting.
Other facilities include a beautiful lounge, dining-room, infinity pool carved into the rocks, state-of-the-art spa and fitness center as well as an intimate sunset bar and restaurant that is located on the western side of the island. Those who enjoy natural history can immerse themselves in the comprehensive library, where not only books but artifacts are kept. Interested guests also get to enjoy a series of immersive marine life presentations and environmental programs in the library.
North Island offers guests bespoke experiences including getting to see nesting sea turtles in season, enjoying sunset cruises, surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding or exploring the forest trails on foot, on a bicycle or in a private buggy. The island boasts four exquisite beaches, as well as a yoga deck, activities center, environment center, Piazza and wine cellar. It should come as no surprise that the Seychelles is considered such a sought-after destination for the Luxury Collection. It is considered one of the most exclusive, luxurious and exotic destinations in the Indian Ocean, which just adds to its charm. South African architects Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, who created the environmentally friendly resort are renowned for their expertise and imagination, and the ability to capture the essence of a location.
Each room in the resort features local materials – wood, local stone, glass and thatch. The interiors are elegant and authentic but understated at the same time, with a definitive organic aesthetic.
North Island offers guests a series of unmatched immersive experiences where guests get to explore the island’s many jewels by scuba diving, sea kayaking, fishing, snorkelling and more.
North Island is located around 30km northeast of Mahe Island, the Seychelles’ main island and its largest. It is located a mere 15-minute ride by helicopter from Mahe.
