Iconic jewelers Tiffany&Co’s latest watch collection includes a unique timepiece inspired by President Franklin D Roosevelt.

Tiffany & Co’s brand new CT60 collection was created to commemorate a watch given to President Roosevelt by his son-in-law as a birthday gift in 1945. The President was photographed wearing the piece numerous times a few months before the end of the Second World War.

The jewelers’ new collection is named ‘CT’ after the company’s founder, Charles Tiffany. The numbers ‘60’ depict the fact that there are 60 seconds in a minute. The collection includes various beautiful timepieces, including the top of the range CT60 Calendar, which is created from just 40 pieces. It is encased in 40mm worth of solid 18-karat rose-gold and behind its silver dial is a well-finished Dubois Depraz caliber 5933 movement.

The 42mm CT60 Chronograph is a sportier timepiece, available in a choice of steel strap or bracelet with either black, blue or silver dials. You can also order the watch in rose gold with a brown or silver dial. All bracelets feature faceted center links that catch and reflect the light and the chronographs are powered by an automatic La Joux Perret caliber.

For women, Tiffany & Co has created the CT60 3-Hand, which is 34mm in size and does not have a date. Stainless steel models on bracelets are available with either grey, blue or silver dials and there is also an 18-kara rose gold model which has an optional bezel set with round brilliant-cut diamonds.

Prices for the CT60 collection range from around $4,250 for women’s steel models with no diamonds all the way up to $19,000 for the limited edition CT60 Calendar.

Founded in 1837, Tiffany’s has grown to become one of the world’s most famous jewelry brands. Throughout its history it has offered timepieces that it has created, as well as branded designer watches such as Rolex and Patek Philippe. But this year’s new collection is offering something that has historic meaning as well, which is why the CT60 watches are all vintage-inspired in design when it comes to the color of the hour numerals and the style of the dial, which is iconically 1940s/1950s. However, the cases and the watch bracelets are all modern.

There is a limited edition in the CT60 range, the CT60 Calendar, of which only 60 timepieces were created. This particular watch offers a 40mm wide case that is 18k rose gold. It offers an annual calendar, which is unique, and makes the dial most unusual. The watch has a black alligator strap, and only comes with silver-style dial.

It seems as if Tiffany & Co has decided to get serious about watchmaking with this latest range, and it will be interesting to see what the famous luxury US jewelry firm comes up with in the future.
