Cunard’s ultra-luxurious flagship liner Queen Mary 2 has defined luxury travel for the past 175 years. To keep the cruise liner abreast of the times, the vessel will be upgraded in Hamburg to offer passengers even more sumptuous options as well as a more elegant and modern stateroom experience. Designers have created fresh schemes and fine details to pay tribute to the original Queen Mary’s iconic Art Deco heritage, but are making sure that the grand ocean liner will continue to be at the forefront of luxury.

The 25-day refurbishment at the Blohm+Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, is what Cunard calls a ‘refreshing’ of this famous luxury cruise liner that has always been the frontrunner when it comes to what to expect in luxury cruising. It will include 30 new, redesigned Brittania Club Balcony staterooms as well as 15 brand new Brittania Single Staterooms to offer passengers more accommodation options. All the pre-existing Brittania Club Balcony cabins will also be refurbished.

Queen Mary 2’s Brittania guests will continue to enjoy spacious, well-appointed staterooms with balconies, all located in prime positions on the vessel. Guests will have the freedom to dine in the exclusive Brittania Club Restaurant if they prefer a more private dining experience. In keeping with the Queen Mary’s inimitable service and luxury, guests will also enjoy a pillow menu, 24-hour room service, a nightly turndown service, exquisite Penhaligons toiletries, satellite TV, slippers and terry robes, fridge, hairdryer and safe.

The staterooms will be fitted with softly hued interiors to enhance the feeling of space, contrasted with rich imperial blue and antique gold highlights to honor the vessel’s Art Deco heritage. They will also feature more contemporary carpet patterns that were inspired by the original geometric diamond designs used on the original Queen Mary.

Cunard’s magnificent Queen Mary 2 was christened in 2004 by Her Majesty the Queen. Queen Mary 2 has hosted various famous dignitaries including President George HW Bush, Desmond Tutu, actors Tilda Swinton, John Cleese, Richard Dreyfus and Uma Thurman, to name but a few. Queen Mary 2 is famous for offering impeccable service, gourmet dining and world-class entertainment, a signature of all Cunard ocean liners, which also include Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth and which boast a 175-year history of transatlantic travel. To this day, Cunard is the only company to offer a regularly scheduled Transatlantic luxury liner service, making it the leaders in world cruising since 1922.
