Let Baroque Villas help assist you to rent David Bowie’s magnificent hill-top villa, The Mandalay Estate, on the Caribbean island of Mustique

One of the most iconic villas on the exclusive Caribbean island of Mustique is now available for rent. It’s The Mandalay Estate, holiday home of British rock legend David Bowie.

The house which was built in 1989 to Bowie’s specifications, is a magical blend of ornate Balinese design and ultra-modern elements. Combined with the Caribbean’s irresistible charm, it is a dream come true for those who like to enjoy the good life, and would like to vacation on the island of Mustique. It features all of the original fixtures that Bowie requested when it was built, and also still boasts all the furniture and décor that were in the house when Bowie called it home.

This extraordinarily beautiful villa offers five spacious bedroom suites, each individually named and designed, each boasting a private veranda that leads directly onto the infinity swimming pool. There are also a number of beautifully furnished reception rooms, as well as a special dining pavilion, study and games room. The property also features various private garden decks for relaxing in seclusion, dining or sunbathing.

The west-facing villa nestles in 6.2 acres of tropical gardens that boast a split-level koi pond, waterfalls and the spectacular infinity pool. It has been designed to make the most of Mustique’s mesmerizing sunsets. It enjoys an excellent location, close to the island’s beautiful white sand beaches and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding turquoise sea.

The villa is not the only building on Mandalay; there is also a ‘Writer’s Cottage’, a self-contained luxury open plan cottage for those who want privacy away from the main villa. Apparently poet and publisher Felix Dennis bought this cottage from Bowie in 1995. This is where he wrote many of his most famous works, including the books ‘How to get Rich’ and ‘A Glass Half Full’.

There is another private pavilion hidden deep in the tropical gardens called ‘The Studio’. This was originally Bowie’s recording studio, but has been refurbished into another very secluded, exclusive luxury hideaway.
