To celebrate the 50th anniversary of fine Cuban cigar makers Cohiba, world-famous Swiss watch brand Zenith created a brand new timepiece. Baroque Access has all the details
Both luxury brands are legends in their own right. Cuban fine cigar makers Cohiba, which celebrates its 50th birthday this year, got together with famous Swiss horologists Zenith to create a limited edition timepiece to honor the occasion. And what a perfect pairing! Both luxury brands are sophisticated, exclusive and have a reputation for excellence, precision and authenticity. Zenith has one and a half centuries of Swiss watchmaking expertise behind its name, whilst Cohiba is one of the most sought-after cigar brands in the world.
Cohiba was created in 1966, and has been offering customers its exclusive hand-crafted cigars for half a century. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, horologists at Zenith created a limited edition of the brand’s legendary El Primera chronograph timepiece. There are only 50 rose gold watches and 500 stainless steel ones in the collection, featuring a Havana brown dial and motifs that relate to Cohiba – accents of yellow and black strips, the colours of the cigar manufactuer’s branding. There is a special engraving of Cohiba’s 50th anniversary logo on the back of the 42mm case. Both brands’ logos punctuate the strips at the top of the watch dial, uniting the brands in a display that is smart and sophisticated.

This is not the first time Zenith has collaborated with Cuba in 2016. The brand created a dedicated model to celebrate the Rolling Stones concert in Cuba in March this year. And at the end of May, the El Primero Chronomaster 1969 Cohiba Edition was born.
Cohiba cigars were initially established as a limited production private Cuban brand that was supplied exclusively to Fidel Castro and high-level officials in the Cuban government. Zenith, on the other hand, was created in Le Locle in Switzerland in 1865 by Georges Favre-Jacot. Since its inception, the brand has grown to become one of the most luxurious watch makers in the world.
