Opening in June 2017, located in the heart of London’s artistic quarter, Nobu Hotel Shoreditch is the first European hotel from the internationally renowned Nobu Hotels brand. Baroque Travel finds out all the details

Nobu Hospitality Group, which is owned by actor Robert De Niro, celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa and businessman Meir Teper is expanding into Europe. It’s first establishment will be located on Willow Street in London’s Shoreditch, and will feature 150 bedrooms, a fine Nobu restaurant and a cocktail lounge.

The design is quite unique, inspired by Shoreditch’s dynamic, raw creative energy combined with Nobu’s values of simple luxury. The five-storey building’s façade is quite unusual, fragmenting at one end. With a backdrop of the warehouses of Great Eastern Street to the North and The Bryant Building’s apartments and offices, the building fits into the Shoreditch environment perfectly.

Originally Ron Arad Architects were commissioned to design the hotel in 2011 but they left the project in 2013 and Ben Adams Architects took over. The result is a striking modern building of bronze, concrete, timber and glass that offers 142 guest rooms and 7 suites, all with bright white en suite bathrooms featuring walk-in rain showers and bespoke gold washbasins. The hotel, which offers a tranquil respite from the bustle of one of London’s most important districts, also features an innovative ‘East meets West’ culinary dining experience in its restaurant, London’s third Nobu eaterie.

World-renowned Nobu cuisine is Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s innovative interpretation of Japanese, Peruvian and other South American elements, influenced by his extensive travels and years of studying Japanese cuisine in Tokyo. The Nobu Shoreditch menu will feature many of Nobu’s timeless dishes, such as Black Cod Miso and Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno, as well as plates inspired by the creativity and vibrancy of the local area. Reached via a grand staircase, the restaurant, which seats 240 guests, also features its own bar, boasts 16-feet (5 meters) high glass doors leading out to an open terrace.

There’s also an exclusive spa on the property, that features a wellness area, 24-hour fitness center, a lobby bar that also features Nobu-inspired dishes and award-winning cocktails, extensive meeting areas and 24-hour in room dining. The hotel features contemporary, very distinctive interior design and a stunning little garden, a public space in Shoreditch that offers an oasis of quiet in this busy district.

The hotel’s 7 exclusive suites overlook the hotel courtyard and garden from private balconies. Each of these spacious accommodations offer Japanese aesthetic subtleties and the largest, the Nobu Suite, features two private balconies, a dining area, lounge and bathroom with bathtub.
