From 30 March to 02 April 2017, the art world is focusing on Paris as its annual spring fair takes place, offering visitors the opportunity to discover creativity and innovation in the art world. Baroque Access finds out all the details

If you’re in Paris this coming week, you can’t miss the annual Art Paris Art Fair, which is a collaboration of 140 art galleries from 20 different countries around the world, showcasing emerging international art scenes as well as European art, from after World War 2 to the present day.

This year, the continent of Africa takes center stage as guest of honor at the fair, with a project that was put together by independent cultural consultant and exhibition curator, Marie-Ann Yemsi. She worked with galleries and artists from around the world and in Africa to showcase African creativity. The project includes a program of video projections and several special projects.

Another popular section of Art Paris is the ‘Solo Show’, a section of the fair that includes the work of emerging, contemporary and modern artists from around 20 international galleries. In a collaboration with Air France, five artists from this section are selected and their masterpieces are displayed on Air France buses for a month.

In support of emerging talent and young galleries, there’s a special section called ‘Promises’, which is found in the center of the Grand Palais. This year, 12 galleries are presenting a maximum of three young artists, whose work will be exhibited on the walls. A highlight of the fair is the monumental digital art featured on the building’s façade. This digital mapping project is in collaboration with the company Vidélio, and it transforms the building with spectacular projections.

In 2017, a number of exceptional artistic and architectural institutions opened their doors in Paris. Art Paris 2017 has a special VIP program dedicated to them, entitled ‘Springtime in Paris’, that gives art professionals and collectors access to these special new institutions and foundations. In addition, the fair offers a selection of around 80 guided tours of the fair, to make contemporary art accessible to all those who are visiting this popular annual event.
