Baroque Travel finds a hidden gem on the island of Mykonos, a magical hotel that not only offers the quintessential Greek island escape, but a place where music becomes a ritual

With its signature whitewashed little houses sparkling against the azure Aegean Sea, Mykonos is a paradise summer getaway. Add music to the equation and you’ve got yourself an incomparable vacation, full of dance parties, afternoon concerts and experimental sound.

The exquisite hotel San Giorgio and its Scorpios Beach Club is visited every year by a number of international musicians, artists and DJs. The hotel has created a ritual that ensures that it’s filled music all summer long. San Giorgio calls it The Magic Movement, and explains it as: “more than music… it’s a way of life”.

This original experience is just part of San Giorgio’s special cachet. Located in one of the island’s most scenic areas, this exquisite beach property shimmers white in the sun. It features an open-plan kitchen and al fresco lounge and deck that overlook the sea. Its design is inspired by origin and craftsmanship, simplistic, with only a few chosen accessories – raw wooden chairs, traditional Greek-style woven stools, cotton quilts. That’s all that’s required to add a touch of warmth to this open, inviting space.

Scorpios beach club is a mere 10-minute’s walk from the hotel. Featuring a cool, spacious clubhouse and bar overlooking two separate beaches, Paradise and Paranga, this is the central hub of the San Giorgio lifestyle, where concerts and parties take center stage. Close to the hotel, just 300m away, one finds the world-renowned Paradise Club, the hub of the island’s vibrant nightlife. Just another addition to the music magic, and a reason to dance.

Accommodation at San Giorgio is simply beautiful, with a ‘less is more’ approach; all rooms and suites feature this stunning design aesthetic created by designer Annabell Kutucu, as well as every possible amenity, from air-conditioning and mini bar to satellite TV and breathtaking views. There are 32 rooms in all: Basico rooms are located on the garden level, then there are double rooms with verandahs or balconies called Mare, overlooking the beach and the sea. The Veranda and Grande suites offer the most scenic views of the bay. All feature spacious bathrooms with a range of organic bathing products.

Life at San Giorgia is – literally – a beach. From the moment guests are transported here in their complimentary shuttle and treated to a welcome drink, the party starts. With a preferred reservation at Scorpios, which reopened in May, every day is a dream, with music the added ingredient.

Dining is an adventure, with fresh salads, pizza, slow-cooked meats, homemade breads, flavorful pastas and other delicacies on offer. Breakfast is served daily, or you can have yours packed up to enjoy on the beach or wherever you go exploring.

When you can tear yourself away from this beautiful location, the rest of Mykonos beckons, with quaint alleyways filled with stores and restaurants, a choice of beaches and other delights.
