British firms Bentley and Princess Yachts have collaborated to create a bespoke Continental GT Convertible that is inspired by yacht design. Baroque Ground finds out all about it

It’s the interior of this exclusive Bentley convertible that takes inspiration from yacht design, thanks to yacht experts Princess Yachts. This, the ultimate edition of the Continental GT Convertible, which is only available in a limited edition of 30 cars, is in ocean hues of Glacier White and lower bright ware in Sequin Blue outside, but the clean, confident lines and materials on the interior are materials used in yachts. Called The Galene Edition by Mulliner, which is Bentley’s bespoke commissioning division, the vehicle combines the very best elements of a luxury ocean lifestyle and a plush convertible motorcar.

The Bentley Galene edition of the Continental GT Convertible is powered by the automaker’s refined 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that churns out 500 horsepower. It boasts the brand’s elegant four-layered retractable hood that keeps passengers in the same comfortable environment as the hardtop Continental GT coupe.

Its plush interior pays homage to the classic opulence, quality hand-crafted materials and exquisite details that are signatures of both Bentley vehicles and luxury super yachts. Seats are covered in Linen and Portland hides with Camel hand cross-stitching, the doors are in Linen, Portland and Brunel and the center console, dashboard and armrests are in Linen, Brunel and Camel. The steering wheel is Linen and Brunel with a Camel stripe at 12 o’ clock and the headrest boasts detailed embroidery in Camel. The car’s signature is its fascia panels in the interior that can be hand painted with a unique Jaume Vilardelli illustration of a luxury yacht located next to the Mulliner logo. The renowned Spanish illustrator’s drawing is also featured on the clock bezel.

The Galene edition has a specially bespoke material finish, called Pinstripe Walnut that creates an authentic, natural finish in the center stack and console. This is echoed in the illuminated tread plates and lines the floor of the boot.

This new Bentley iteration takes the relationship with luxury cars and super yachts one step further. Although not the first time that boats and cars have inspired each other, the new Galene edition is in its own class. The car has been named after the Greek goddess Galene, goddess of calm seas. Throughout the exquisite design one finds plenty of inspiration from luxury yachting, from the color of the car itself to its 21-inch Propellor alloy wheels. The result is the epitome of maritime opulence and exquisite material details.
