German automaker Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur has designed hyper cars before, but this new iteration is even more impressive than their iconic Gumpert Apollo. Baroque Ground finds out more

More impressive than its predecessor, the Gumpert Apollo, the brand new 2018 Apollo Intensa Emozione Hyper car is a force to be reckoned with in the automotive industry. The Apollo Intensa Emoziona, whose name means ‘Intense Emotion’ in English, features a 6.3 liter naturally aspirated V12 engine. But it’s the US$2.7 million price tag that has tongues wagging.

Let’s take a look at the specs of this magnificent machine… 9,000 rpm, with peak power at 8,500 rpm, the vehicle churns out 769 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque. This is quite a feat when you consider that the new Apollo Intensa Emozione weighs a mere 2,756 pounds! The reason the car is so light is that Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur used a carbon fiber chassis and body for their hyper car, which was built in Italy by Manifattura Automobil Torina. In fact, the entire chassis, including the front and rear sub frames and the monocoque, weigh just 105kg in all (that’s just over 231 pounds).

In addition, Apollo decided not to go the electric route; instead, the car boasts a sequential six-speed manual gearbox that shifts fast and furiously.

All of these factors have resulted in a vehicle that can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.7 seconds, with a top speed of 208 miles per hour. According to Norman Choi, Apollo’s CEO, “We felt that all the technological advancement and automation in today’s supercars took away the pure, raw emotional connection between driver and car.

“We wanted to build a car that would fill that void separating car and driver. So we built the Apollo IE.”

Apparently, the manufacturers will only produce 10 bespoke examples of their Intensa Emozione. No wonder the price is so high.
