Famous not only for its extraordinary design, the Bulgari Octo Collection of timepieces is also renowned for its thinness. Now Bulgari adds two more models to its Octo Black range. Baroque Access has all the details

In 2012, Italian luxury watch and jewellery design brand Bulgari launched its iconic Octo Collection and it has been growing ever since, famous for its record-breaking slim case. In June, the design powerhouse added two new models to the Black range of Octo timepieces – a chronograph timepiece, the Octo L’Originale Chronograph, and and an ultra-slim skeleton watch, the Octo Finissimo Skeleton.

Just like all the magnificent timepieces in Octo’s Black collection, these two new models are housed in cases that are finished in black DLC (diamond-like carbon) and feature screw-locking crowns coated with black DLC with ceramic inlays. Of course, the iconic Bulgari mechanical movements feature, but in every other way, these two models are significantly different from their predecessors.

The Octo L’Originale Chronograph features an octagonal, multi-faceted case that is 41.5mm in diameter, created from stainless steel that has been treated with DLC. Its dial is matt black and features hand-applied appliqués and black hands that are cut-out, as well as a V-shaped tricompax layout for its three sub dials (there are chronograph minutes at 3 o’clock, chronograph hours at 6 o’clock and running seconds at 9 o’clock, and a slanted window at 4.30).

It has a self-winding movement, visible through a sapphire display back, boasts a 50-hour power reserve and a 1/10th of a second chronograph mechanism controlled by a column wheel. The timepiece features a black rubber strap that integrates seamlessly into the case and fastens with a steel pin buckle also treated with DLC.

The Octo Finissimo Skeleton features a lightweight, yet tough sandblasted titanium under its case’s ebony DLC coating. The case is slightly smaller in diameter than the Chrono at 40mm and much slimmer, at just 5.37mm. It boasts a clear dial that shows the stunning open-worked hand-wound movement produced in-house by Bulgari. The cut-out hour and minute hands, indications for small seconds and the impressive 60-hour power reserve are all made from 18-karat rose gold.

The case back is visible from the sapphire window and the Finissimo caliber has black finishing on the main plate and brides. It measures an incredible 2.35mm. The bracelet strap is made from titanium that has been treated with black DLC and features a folding clasp. Prices range for around $12,000 for the L’Original Chronograph and $27,000 for the Finissimo Skeleton.
