British automaker Bentley will celebrate 100 years of manufacturing luxury vehicles in July 2019 by creating a new limited edition of just 100 models of the Mulsanne, entitled the W.O. Edition by Mulliner. Baroque Ground finds out all the details.

The Mulsanne W.O. Edition by Mulliner is inspired by the first 8-liter Bentley model created way back in 1930, founder Walter Owen Bentley’s personal vehicle. It’s an adaptation of this car, which was the last vehicle W.O. Bentley designed for his company, an imposing and extravagant vehicle that was touted as the owner’s finest grand tourer ever. His car was the second 8-liter off the production line, and was customized for him. He sold the car a year later, but it was bought back by the company and restored. It is now located at Bentley HQ, a symbol of triumph in luxury motoring design.

Enter the 21st-century version of the Mulsanne, handcrafted and magnificent. The aesthetics of the original 1930s model can be incorporated into the new Mulsanne range, most specifically its interior. Elements include the Mulliner illuminated cocktail cabinet at the back, a geometric front matrix grill, the original headlight and a display window that is home to a precious slice of the original crankshaft from W.O. Bentley’s personal car. This will bear an inscription detailing its significance, and a reminder of the prestige and legacy that comes with 100 years of this extraordinary vehicle.

Fireglow Heritage hides with Beluga details and stitching, and dark-stained Burr walnut veneer is used throughout the interior, including the rim of the steering wheel. The car itself has Onyx paintwork (or you can choose your preferred color), black wheels and a chrome strip on the bonnet that highlights the graceful Flying B badge located on top of the chrome radiator grille and shell. On the lower bumper one finds a discreet W.O. Bentley signature badge that has special centenary elements.

The new Bentley Mulsanne is being manufactured in the brand’s Crewe factory in England. It will debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on 24 & 25 August 2018. It is available in all three Mulsanne models, including the Speed. Deliveries of the limited edition W.O. Edition by Mulliner will start in 2019. To date, pricing of this exceptional luxury vehicle has not yet been announced.
