The iconic EDITION range of hotels created by famous hotelier Ian Schrager is expanding at a rapid rate, with hotels opening in both Barcelona and Shanghai in the near future. Baroque Travel takes a look at the Barcelona EDITION that is about to open its doors
The new Barcelona EDITION will be located in the Spanish city’s creative heart of El Born, in the center of the iconic Ciutat Vella district. Previously an old hotel, it has been magically transformed by Carlos Ferrater Studio into a magnificent modern establishment that features 100 luxurious rooms and suites including two exclusive penthouses, as well as 3 restaurants, 2 bars and an al fresco roof terrace with a plunge pool.
The hotel offers guests a dynamic yet exclusive and sophisticated environment with various public spaces including a dramatic double-height lobby featuring a striking sapphire colored chandelier and various timeless items of furniture that were originally created by iconic Catalan masters Antoni Gaudí and Salvador Dali. There’s also an eclectic lobby lounge and bar-restaurant, not to forget the informal all-day dining restaurant as well as two other innovative eating spaces.
In keeping with the London EDITION’s famous, award-winning iconic bar, the Punch Room, the new EDITION will feature its namesake on the mezzanine floor that has been reincarnated with some Spanish flair. Guests access the bar via a marble, wood and steel spiral staircase to enjoy an extensive menu that includes cocktails, punches, sangrias and long drinks.
Other facilities at this new EDITION include a Castilian-style billiard room, a black granite fireplace flanked by sophisticated leather and green velvet pieces of furniture and the Roof on the 10th floor, a terrace offering breath taking panoramic views of Barcelona where guests and locals can dine and refresh themselves with a drink. The hotel also features also a fitness centre and 24-hour desk.
The hotel is ideally situated close to many popular sites including Barcelona’s Cathedral, the Santa Caterina Market, Las Ramblas and many luxury stores. It is just 15 minutes from the beach.
