Your next marathon—or morning jog—could soon feel effortless.
Nike has just unveiled Project Amplify, a revolutionary development that may change how we move. Billed as the world’s first powered footwear system for running, jogging, and walking, this futuristic creation is designed to help users go faster and farther with less effort.
Developed in partnership with Dephy, a leading bionic footwear brand, Project Amplify integrates cutting-edge robotics directly into its structure. The shoes feature a carbon fiber plate, lightweight motor, drive belt, and rechargeable battery cuff—all engineered to mimic and enhance natural lower-leg and ankle movement. According to Nike, the concept is “like a second set of calf muscles,” providing an extra push with every stride.

As Michael Donaghu, Nike’s VP of Create the Future, Emerging Sport and Innovation, explains,
“Project Amplify started with a single question: what if we could help athletes move faster and farther with less energy and a lot more fun?”
Built on motion algorithms from the Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL), the system works much like an electric bike for your feet—making it easier to cover more distance while conserving energy. Unlike traditional performance shoes designed for elite runners, Project Amplify targets everyday athletes running at a 10- to 12-minute mile pace, offering a more enjoyable, extended workout.

During testing, more than 400 athletes participated in trials at the NSRL, collectively taking over 2.4 million steps. Many testers reported that the sneakers felt like a natural extension of their bodies, with uphill runs feeling as effortless as flat ground. Some even improved their pace by two minutes per mile.
Although still in the prototype stage, Nike’s Project Amplify marks a defining moment for sports innovation. As technology continues to merge with movement, the boundary between athlete and machine grows ever thinner—inviting a future where every step is powered by possibility.
