Recently opened in Tuscany by COMO Hotels and Resorts, close to Florence and Siena, is COMO Castello Del Nero, a 12th century castle layered with Renaissance frescoes and contemporary design. Baroque Travel takes a look

Situated in the rolling hills of Tuscany is an historic 740-acre estate, home to Castello Del Nero, the brand new hotel from COMO Hotels & Resorts, designed by renowned Milanese designer Paola Navone. Not only is the setting breathtakingly beautiful, but this new resort also offers Michelin-starred dining experiences.

All the food at COMO Castello Del Nero is prepared using fresh organic produce from the estate as well as the finest Tuscan ingredients sourced from farmers in the area. As expected from a Michelin-starred retreat, the menus are constantly changing with the season. Guests enjoy dining al fresco on the terrace in the warmer months, savoring superb cuisine and the spectacular scenery. There’s also the Michelin-starred restaurant, La Torre, for dining on gourmet fare, which is located in the castle’s former stables.

COMO Castello Del Nero offers world-class wellness and beauty treatments at its spa, COMO Shambhala Retreat that boasts 10 treatment rooms as well as a spacious relaxation area with far-reaching views across the surrounding hillsides. Guests also enjoy a fitness centre located at the spa, a magnificent 25m heated outdoor pool with those magical views, 2 tennis courts and complimentary yoga sessions on certain days.

The resort offers 50 guest rooms and suites, all spacious and decorated in cool tones, and most offering jaw-dropping views of the Tuscan landscape. A stay here is literally like stepping into a painting. Of course, accommodation facilities are exceptional, and include a choice of pillows, a private bar and TV with extensive on-demand music.

Service is unsurpassed and unobtrusive and includes a 24-hour concierge plus 24-hour room service. Guests also enjoy complimentary shuttle trips to either Siena or Florence, both just a 30-minute drive from the resort, transfers to and from the airport and the opportunity to hire a car or Vespa to explore the Tuscan landscape. For those who prefer, there is a heliport so that visitors can travel in style in a helicopter. In addition, guests can bring small dogs to stay at the hotel.

The hotel is offering an exciting opening special, which includes accommodation for a minimum of 3 nights, a 3-course gourmet dining experience for 2 at the Michelin-starred La Torre Restaurant, an hour-long couple’s massage at the COMO Shambhala Retreat plus access to all the hotel’s exceptional facilities. This exceptional offer is valid until 30 June 2019.

Before being bought by the COMO Group in 2018, the Castello had functioned as a private estate. It was used as a private hotel since 2006. The newly opened COMO hotel is a serene, contemporary retreat that is welcoming and luxurious, with the Castello’s historic terracotta floors, frescoed walls and vaulted ceilings.
