Gucci opens luxury bookstore in NYC

SoHo is known for being New York City’s creative hub, with evidence of music, fashion, film, literature and art everywhere. Baroque Access takes a look at the latest addition to this downtown area, the Gucci Wooster Bookstore

New York is famous for its charming niche bookstores – and there’s a new one on the block. Yes, Italian design in the form of luxury brand Gucci is bringing literature to SoHo’s cobbled streets in the form of Gucci Wooster Bookstore. The almost 2,000 publications on offer are themed around avant-garde art, fashion, youth culture, interiors and architecture, illustration and design and, of course, photography. Customers can purchase the latest publications as well as used and rare books. Books that are themed around Gucci’s inspirations and seasonal projects will be available as well. In addition, magazines that specialize in art, fashion, culture, design, illustration and photography will be on sale.

Dashwood Books is a Manhattan bookstore that specializes in photography, hence the new store’s name. The collaboration between the two brands has resulted in this extraordinary little store, which is decorated with restored pieces, wooden furniture and art pieces created by people affiliated with Gucci. David Strettell, founder of Dashwood Books is curator of the store. The store also offers a Chief Librarian and various ‘Book Worms’ to assist customers find what they’re looking for.

The intimate store will not only offer literary items; a selection of exquisite gifts are also on sale, including canvas bags, notebooks, pencils and other stationery items that feature Gucci’s brand new ’63 Wooster design.

Gucci is innovative in everything that it does, and the new bookstore is truly a special space for literary souls. This SoHo bookstore marks a new chapter for the Italian fashion house, a welcome respite from its fabulous fashion that graces every major city in the world, and a possible venture into another area entirely as time goes by.
