Gucci has had a really good year, thanks to its whimsical and quirky Creative Director, Alessandro Michele. These stylish dual time Gucci GMT automatic watches are just one example of his mastery
Gucci released two new offbeat Gucci GMT Automatic timepieces in the past 2 year. In 2017 the brand released the G-Timeless GMT that boasts a slim steel case and features a relatively minimalistic look. It’s best known for its whimsical dial that displays hour markers in the form of stars, tiny bees and a single heart situated at 7 ‘o clock (the heart is a signature of Alessandro Michelle and it’s found on previous iterations of the Gucci G-Timeless timepieces). The model is relatively lightweight, elegant and well proportioned – and, like many Gucci designs, it certainly stands out from the crowd.
The second timepiece, the Eryx GMT that was created this year, grabs your attention because of a magnificent snake that forms the second time zone hand. (In fact, Gucci chose the name ‘Eryx’ for the watch, which is a species of snake!)
On the inside, an ETA 2893 powers up the watch (that is an ETA 2892 with the addition of a second hand). The watch boasts a simple steel 40mm case, which is either in a polished finish or has a matt black PVD coating with a rotor that matches the case.
Gucci’s Creative Director is known for his nostalgic references, evident in his latest 2 automatic watches. But it’s the dial detailing that catches the eye – not just the bees, stars and heart that Alessandro Michele is famous for and has used before, but that incredible second time zone hand, created to resemble a black, white and red banded coral snake.
The Gucci automatic Eryx GMT watches are currently unavailable, which means you couldn’t have purchased one for Christmas unless you were one of those lucky enough to be ahead of the queue before they sold out. Luckily, there’s always a reason to purchase an exceptional watch, no matter the time of year. So watch out for them come 2019 when the brand restocks its shelves.
And what do they cost? The G-Timeless GMT will set you back $2,200 for the steel version and $2,430 for the black PVD iteration. The Eryx GMT costs $2,650 for the gold-plated version or $2,500 for the black PVD model.
