Prestigious new camera costs more than a luxury vehicle

Leica recently created the Leica M ‘Null Series’ Camera Kit, a set of 25 pre-production cameras that will feature the same parts as the Leica M Set. The price tag? More than a luxury automobile!

Yours for just $74,500 – the prestigious Leica M ‘Null Series Camera Kit’, which follows on from the equally exclusive Leica M Set Edition ‘Leica 100’ released in 2014 to celebrate Leica cameras’ centenary. The commemorative set included a stainless steel collection in a one-of-a-kind Rimowa case, which is unique to the M Sets. It boasts a black anodized finish on the exterior and a special handmade interior leather finish.

The set itself comprises a LeicaM-A Edition ‘Leica 100’, Leica M Monochrom Edition ‘Leica 100’, Leica Summilux-M 28mm f/1.4 ASPH, Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH and Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4. Only 101 ‘Leica 100’ sets were manufactured.

The ‘Null Series’ produced this year, offers an additional 25 sets, continuing in the mission to celebrate Leica’s 100 years of photography. The metal parts on the cameras’ exteriors and the lenses are all made of solid stainless steel that boasts a special Swiss coating that prevents fingerprints. In addition, the camera cladding and its carrying strap are both manufactured from premium calfskin leather.

These two commemorative sets feature three Summilux-M lenses, a first in any set created during Leica’s history and one of Leica’s most desirable optics. The 28mm lens features a brand new lens design and, together with the 35mm lenses, it includes a screw mount round metal lens hood that is manufactured in solid stainless steel.

The new ‘Null Series’ set features the same parts as the original commemorative set including a Leica M-A Edition ‘Leica 100’ and a Leica M Monochrom Edition ‘Leica 100’. The original 100 were produced and numbered from 1914 to 2014. However, these 25 models are numbered differently. Currently one of these extremely rare Leica sets is available at Leica in Miami, offering collectors, investors and Leica enthusiasts the opportunity to own one of this prestigious company’s most celebrated special edition sets.

So how much are you willing to pay for 100 years of photography, a set of one of the finest cameras and lenses in the world? Whatever your thoughts on the price, remember – so few of these magnificent cameras and lenses have been made, that their rarity alone is worth the price tag. And when you consider the fact that this special edition of just 25 camera sets also includes a new lens, then you realize that you’re considering one of the rarest camera sets in the world.
