French luxury brand Louis Vuitton’s latest luggage collection, ‘The Spirit of Travel’, features an innovative selection of rolling trunks for the 21st Century. Baroque Access finds out all about it
Louis Vuitton has long been renowned as a manufacturer of superb, luxury luggage and steamer trunks, a long heritage that is often referred to in its collections and advertisements. The latest collection, ‘The Spirit of Travel’ has already raised eyebrows with an eye-catching post shared by the brand on Facebook, featuring a rolling trunk in a helicopter flying over Rio de Janeiro. The photograph was taken by world famous fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier, who is responsible for all of Louis Vuitton’s Spirit of Travel campaigns.
For this latest collection, the brand worked with Marc Newson, a well-known industrial designer in the luxury market who has designed products for the likes of Jaeger Le Coultre, Apple Watch and Montblanc. He calls the latest LV collection “the future of luxurious rolling luggage” as each of the trunks has four wheels for increased mobility as well as a flat back shell and external handle to make more space inside.
The new luggage pieces are available in two sizes – cabin size or mini – and three different materials: monogram canvas, monogram eclipse, damier graphite or taiga leather in natural cowhide or seven different hues of epi leather. The larger piece will retail at $3,100, and the smaller for $2,600.
Of course, this is the 21st Century, so Louis Vuitton has a special app for these special designs. When a piece of rolling luggage is purchased, the suitcase can be synced with the brand’s LV Pass mobile app that is available for both Apple and Android devices. Through the app, the owner can access additional information about new Louis Vuitton campaigns, collections and initiatives, as well as services for their luggage. There are also perks attached such as premium repair services, dedicated care advice, and personalized content. Exactly what one would expect from Louis Vuitton.
Something a little bit different – and more expensive, too
If you’re in line for something a little more expensive and exclusive, how about taking a look at Louis Vuitton’s stunning crocodile leather backpack, which will set you back a mere $81,500? The piece, which is part of a select group in their Spring/Summer 2016 collection, is also available in less expensive versions, in Louis Vuitton’s iconic monogram and damier patterns. There’s also an all-red version for a comparative ‘bargain’ at $3,500, and an ultralight backpack, aptly named the Backpack Ultralight, which has been designed for lightweight urban travel. It’s constructed from canvas, lined with a cowhide leather trim and features LV’s famous monogram logo. It’s a spacious option, with an iPad slot sealed with a metallic zipper and a quick release metal buckle on the top of the bag. Choose from cobalt base with cobalt or white monograms, and expect to pay in the region of $2,810.
