A new era in yachting has arrived — and it’s fossil-free.
Project Zero, a 230-foot sailing yacht currently in the final stages of construction at Vitters shipyard in the Netherlands, is poised to become the world’s first truly zero-emission superyacht. Created by Dutch design visionary Vripack in partnership with Dykstra Naval Architects, Foundation Zero, and other sustainability-forward teams, Zero is more than just a showpiece — it’s a statement of intent for the future of luxury on water.

The Vision Behind Zero
Project Zero isn’t just another superyacht — it’s a 100% open-source science experiment wrapped in aluminum and purpose. With over 60,000 hours of research and development, Vripack set out to redefine the possibilities of fossil-free yachting.

The initiative was not simply about proving feasibility, but creating a working model the marine industry could emulate. “Our goal wasn’t just to prove that a fossil-free superyacht is viable—it was to create a real-world model others can learn from,” shared Vripack’s co-creative director, Marnix Hoekstra.
How Does It Work?

Zero relies entirely on renewable energy, combining wind, solar, thermal energy, and hydro-generation for propulsion and onboard systems.
🔋 Her 5 megawatt-hour battery system — equivalent to the energy of 88 Teslas — provides two weeks of autonomy
☀️ 1,076 square feet of solar panels absorb sun energy
💨 Wind turbines can generate up to 200 kW
🌊 Hydro-generation while sailing tops up her system

The result? A virtually unlimited range and a completely silent, emission-free cruising experience that feels as good as it looks.
Yacht Design with Purpose and Beauty
Project Zero isn’t just groundbreaking in performance — she’s a Panamax-class beauty. With her sleek aluminum exterior, signature pointed bow, and elegant ketch rig, she exemplifies form following sustainable function.

Onboard, Zero hosts up to 12 guests and 9 crew. Each guest suite is uniquely inspired by a different global destination, complete with bespoke artwork and natural materials to reflect the spirit of place and respect for the planet.
Chartering for Change
Once launched and tested in late 2025, Zero will be privately owned but also offered for select charter itineraries, offering a new kind of luxury experience: immersion in nature with zero compromise to the environment.
She will also serve as a floating research lab, supporting global marine science, clean energy studies, and ocean sustainability efforts.
A Turning Point in Superyacht Sustainability
In an industry traditionally reliant on diesel engines and carbon-heavy construction, Zero signals a sea change. She represents the gold standard in green yachting, with her technological blueprint shared openly in hopes of accelerating the entire sector’s shift to cleaner seas.
For the eco-conscious elite, Zero is not only a dream come true — she’s a blueprint for the future.
