It’s not just a place to stay in London – Ham Yard is a unique pedestrian-free thoroughfare complete with specialist stores, a restaurant and bar where visitors dine and drink al fresco and the Ham Yard Hotel itself, which offers numerous fabulous facilities. Baroque Travel takes a look
Sensational Soho is home to numerous stunning places to stay, but the latest, the Ham Yard Hotel, is on another level. Boasting a sumptuous drawing room, library and orangery, as well as a spa, gym, 190-seat theater, 1950s bowling alley imported all the way from Texas and a leafy rooftop garden, the hotel really has it all – and then some. It’s part of a unique project by hospitality brand Firmdale, a destination rather than just an hotel that includes a thoroughfare full of shops, restaurants and a stunning sculpture.
But that’s just the start – each of the hotel’s 96 rooms and suites as well as 24 plush residential apartments is individually designed by eclectic British designer Kit Kemp, as well as the toiletries in the bathrooms, pillow spray and candles. Kemp’s products feature light scents of gardenia and green leaf balanced by orange flower blossom and bergamot, creating a signature scent for this extraordinary hotel. Her style is modern and extremely British, individual and original.
Owners of this luxurious boutique establishment, Kit Kemp and her husband Tim have ensured that comfort is of the utmost importance here. This is not their only hotel – under the Firmdale brand they have launched and designed 10 exquisite establishments including the legendary Crosby Street Hotel and The Whitby Hotel in Manhattan, as well as eight hotels in London including the Ham Yard.
Their latest hotel is ideally located in the midst of Soho close to Mayfair and offers an urban village feel. Decorated with eye-catching works of art and color-coordinated designer patterns, the hotel is fast becoming the go to place for those who frequent Soho and enjoy stunning views from the fourth floor rooftop terrace, a bustling cocktail bar serving inventive snacks and drinks and an excellent restaurant that serves innovative creations based on traditional dishes like steak and chips and roast duck with vegetables.
The hotel’s location is central and ideal for those who enjoy having fun. The West End with its numerous theaters nearby including the Piccadilly Theater right next door, as are numerous excellent restaurants. Closer to the hotel in the thoroughfare you’ll find stunning stores such as My Cup of Tea where you can purchase some of the best tea blends available internationally and the luxury apothecary Brummells of London. And did we mention that Regent Street with its stunning shopping options is just a few minutes’ walk away?
