Nestling on the west coast of Mauritius on its own private peninsula is the five star One & Only Le St Geran, a haven of luxury and tranquillity.

Guests enjoy personalised service from the moment they arrive, when their private butler unpacks their luggage. There’s a menu for pillows and for room fragrance and one can even choose which Nespresso flavors they prefer so that the right pods are kept ready for that caffeine fix.

There’s far too much on offer at Le St Geran. For starters, the beach is right outside your door, so sunbathing and relaxing are mandatory. And there’s a beach service to ensure that you have every comfort and refreshment necessary.

A short stroll through tropical splendor takes you to the boathouse, where a choice of water sports is available. Guests enjoy water-skiing in the protected lagoon, as well as a selection of other facilities, from pedal boats to kite surfing. Instructors are on hand for those who need tuition, too. Other activities are arranged daily as well, including golf, tennis, mountain biking, volleyball, yoga and stretch classes.

The resort is famous for its spa, where many guests come specifically to enjoy its many treatments. Pampering includes a dedicated Pedi/Mani-cure Studio that is run by an internationally acclaimed French podiatrist, facials and massages that are world class, and a brand new concept called Harmonia, which is supervised by Chinese medical practitioner Francesc Miralles. This personalized offering includes a program to cleanse, detox, rejuvenate and rebalance with specially designed personal menus, daily acupuncture and sacro-cranial massage, Tai Chi, physiotherapy, osteopathy and meditation.

Of course, one of the best things about a luxury island holiday is the food. The main restaurant, La Terrasse, prepares a mind-boggling breakfast and dinner buffet bounty. The variety is exceptional and the quality is superb. The pastry chef prides himself on offering a different selection of mouth-watering desserts every night, and the freshness and wide variety of all the food is one of the reasons that guests return year after year.

For lunch, guests have a choice of fresh seafood and other delights freshly prepared at Le Badamier, an outdoor restaurant overlooking the azure sea. If they prefer, they can enjoy these delicious titbits on the beach – signature One&Only style is food delivered in a beautiful leather lunchbox.

One can’t visit Le St Geran without savouring its two specialist restaurants. Located on the water’s edge, the renowned Rasoi by Vineet provides a modern Indian menu with a Creole influence. The menu, which was created by the only Michelin-starred Indian chef in the world, Vineet Bhatia, is extraordinary. The food is delicately spiced and beautifully balanced, and each dish is a masterpiece on a plate. Sublime seafood, fragrant curries and unexpected dessert combinations make for an unforgettable dining experience.

And then there’s Prime, the resort’s contemporary grill, watched over by Le St Geran’s Executive chef, Karim Hassene, a Frenchman to the tips of his toes, with a love for the finer things in life. This is reflected in his quirky combinations of flavors and ingredients, including sea urchin soufflé, ‘hot and cold’ tuna sashimi and peanut butter tiramisu. A gastronomic delight awaits…
