Dubrovnik Summer Festival 2015

Since the 1950s those who summer in areas surrounding the charming old town of Dubrovnik have enjoyed an exciting summer festival with various theatrical and musical performances. Baroque Travel has all the details of this year’s festival

This year, the 66th annual Dubrovnik Summer Festival has already started. It runs from 10 July all the way to 25 August and offers an exciting variety of performances, including theater, ballet, opera, folk, film and visual art programs performed in different locations in this historic Renaissance old town.

The baroque town of Dubrovnik with its ancient city walls and cobbled streets is the perfect setting for a series of cultural events such as these – and over the years, many international European stars have performed in the town to packed audiences in numerous locations in the city, including the Rector’s Palace, Sponza Palace and the Gruz summer residence. The Festival Drama Ensemble were responsible for many of these performances, as were guest appearances from stars of theaters from Milan, London, Athens, Basel. Unconventional performances were included in the early 1970s, including puppet theaters and comedians.

Today the festival program remains as eclectic as ever, with famous orchestras from all over the world taking to the stage as well as piano soloists, violinists, flautists, choirs such as the Vienna Boys Choir and various singers, opera stars and other performers. Ballet and dance are also regulars at the Festival, which promises to be as exciting as ever.
