Milan gets ready to show its mettle

This coming week, fashionistas from all over the world are heading for Italy’s fashion mecca, Milan, to view designer fashion for Spring/Summer 2016. If you’re en route to Milan to watch the shows between 23 and 29 September, Baroque Lifestyle has all the details of what’s on show, where to go, and where to eat

Yes, the spotlight is on fashion this coming week in Milan, but whenever you have a free moment, don’t forget to spend time exploring, to discover its magic. Milan is full of beautiful gardens and undiscovered squares, each offering a taste of what inspires the creativity for which Italy is so famous. You can find this when you explore the magnificent Duomo, see frescoes and paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, enjoy the opera at the world-famous La Scala, or just people-watch as the sun goes down with a coffee or aperitivo close by.

If you wish to see some celebrities, you’ll likely find many are staying at the brand new Mandarin Oriental hotel which opened a little more than a month ago. Its location, close to some of Italy’s most famous fashion houses around the famous shopping street, Via Monte Napoleone, make it a sure bet as a base for those who can afford it. It’s also worth exploring – it’s located in four completely renovated 18th Century buildings and offers everything necessary for the ultimate luxe city break, including two restaurants and an excellent spa. If you’re staying elsewhere, you can still visit and enjoy a drink at the bar. If you’re in the mood for cocktails, then head for Radetzky, which offers a selection of tasty snacks and cocktails. It’s on Corso Garibaldi.

Where to eat? Popular with the locals, head for Luini, close to the Duomo. Not as accessible, but also worth a try is Ratana, which offers an excellent three-course lunch.
