Monaco may be tiny, but its luxurious hotels offer spaciousness and luxe on every level, comparable and better than anywhere in the world. The Hotel Metropole Monte Carlo is one of its finest, popular with visitors from all over the world, including Britain, the USA and Russia. Located in the heart of the famous Monte-Carlo district, within easy reach of the Casino and close to the famous Boulingrins Gardens, the hotel has been designed to resemble a secluded retreat, despite being in the midst of this tiny, busy city.

One enters the hotel through an arc-shaped entrance that opens onto an exquisite Tuscan-style courtyard. Waiting to greet you in front of the Belle Epoque front of the hotel is a host of polite, friendly doormen and valet staff. As you enter the lobby area, you’ll find a delightful space, exquisitely decorated with a spacious living room to one side decorated with magnificent tapestries, old world bookcases and lush, colourful arrangements of flowers.

All the accommodation is superb and spacious, designed with a careful blend of modern and classic style, period furniture and contemporary artwork and artefacts. The en suite white marble bathrooms are spacious and offer his and her sinks, large bathtub and walk-in shower.

Dining at this plush establishment is a joy, with a choice of three stunning restaurants offering the very best gourmet fare. There’s the 2-Michelin star Joel Robuchon restaurant that was created by world-famous designer Jacques Garcia. It’s overseen by Joel Robuchon himself. Then there’s Yoshi, also run by Joel Robuchon, another Michelin-starred establishment. Finally there’s the opportunity to dine on a choice of Robuchon dishes in the 19th Century drawing room for breakfast, lunch and snacks.

A highlight of the hotel is its striking modern outdoor swimming pool that is heated and filled with seawater. Then there’s the stunning lounge area, designed by legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, an oasis of beauty and tranquillity in the midst of the buzzing city of Monte Carlo where one can relax.

Speaking of relaxation, make sure to spend some time in the superb ESPA spa located next to the main property, apparently the only ESPA in the country. It offers a sauna, hammam and caldarium, all decorated with shimmering mosaic tiles. Relax here to the sounds of soft, soothing music and enjoy a blissful pampering experience.
