Geneva is setting the stage for its 87th annual International Motor Show, from 9 to 19 March at Palexpo Convention Center. Baroque Ground founds out all the details
Not only is the Geneva International Motor Show one of the highlights of the motoring calendar; it’s also the only international motor show recognized by the International Organization of Automobile Constructors (OICA) and is also a member of the ‘Top 5’ worldwide. This event is where the international automotive industry showcases the most innovative and glamorous products created for the coming year.
Last year’s show was packed with 700,000 visitors, including 690,000 spectators and 10,000 media who were presented with over 130 World and European Premiers. Interestingly enough, 45% of the visitors came from countries around the world, which confirmed the international stature of this famous motor show. Aside from international automobile manufacturers, suppliers, tuners and so on, many celebrities also attend every year, making this the most prestigious automobile event on the motoring show calendar.
In 2017, the automobile halls (Halls 1 to 6) will be much as they were in 2016; manufacturers traditionally confirm their participation from one year to the next, and for this reason also choose to keep their location in the halls the same so that visitors know where to find them. The most popular stands are those along the partitions, as they can be expanded to two storeys by building a floor above the original.
As in previous years, Hall 7 is dedicated to Swiss automobile manufacturers who exhibit vehicles and accessories made in their home country. To allow more exhibitors to show their products, a new concept has been developed for 2017 for Hall 7 exhibitors that will enable them to have space for part of the Motor Show, or the full duration, depending on what they prefer. So if you are going to attend, take note: from 9 to 13 March, various exhibitors will be showing their products for a short time on modular stands.
As in previous years, this year’s Motor Show will also feature a program of conferences and round tables. This year’s show will offer the opportunity to discover more than 900 new vehicle models as well as over 100 innovative trends, including the latest in eco-friendly technology. Top vehicle manufacturers will present the current highlights from their range of models as well as their latest advances in the field of sustainable mobility, will a range of all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Another highlight will be the new SUV’s created by leading manufacturers to compete in what is becoming a very popular sector of the market.
