Two Bespoke McLaren MSO Super Cars – for the Same Customer

British carmaker McLaren has just completed two exquisite, highly customized models of its MSO super car – the MSO R Coupé and MSO R Spider – for a single customer. Baroque Ground finds out more

McLaren Special Operations, which is the bespoke division of the British automaker, was commissioned by a customer to create two very customized MSO cars. The results? A stunning MSO R Coupé and MSO R Spider, both of which are the latest in a long line of specially commissioned McLaren cars that are always a complete collaboration of the owner and the car maker’s special division regarding the specifics.

According to Jolyon Nash, Executive Director of Global Sales and Marketing at McLaren Automotive, “An MSO Personal Commission is the highest level of partnership between a customer and McLaren Special Operations. It is undertaken to design, develop and create unique interpretations of McLaren cars, expertly tailored to meet the exact requirements of the owner.

“The result is a McLaren personalised by MSO to become a car that is literally one of a kind – or in the case of these stunning MSO R cars, one of a matched pair.”

These latest customized McLarens share the same specifications both on the outside and on the inside as well as when it comes to the mechanics. They are finished in a very understated yet attention-grabbing Liquid Silver color. The MSO R Coupé is finished with a satin finish, whilst the MSO R Spider boasts a gloss finish. Both feature a central stripe made from carbon fiber.

Both automobiles also have the same design when it comes to the twin-element rear wing and feature front dive planes to enhance the cars’ aerodynamic performance even further.

Inside, the cars are even more striking than their exteriors. Both cars have cabins with Alcantara trim material, mostly black with some striking red stitching. This is reversed on the seats – they are red with black stitching and boast a black MSO R logo embroidered on each headrest.

The steering wheel is made of carbon fiber on the upper and lower parts. There are black Alcantara grips and a Delta Red stripe in the center. The switches are made in gloss black, whilst the vent mechanisms have a satin black finish, and the bezels are made from carbon fiber.

All of these personalized features are evident in the engines of both cars, which have been blueprinted. The machine heads and exhaust ports are hand-polished, which assists in giving maximum power to the M838TL twin-turbocharged McLaren V8 engines.

Apparently, McLaren Special Operations is currently seeing an increasing number of customers enquiring about bespoke and one-off cars.
