Baroque Ground introduces the Urus, a new super car from Italian automakers Lamborghini, which combines the performance of a sports car with the sturdiness and durability of an SUV
Lamborghini is serious about getting back into the SUV market, if its latest vehicle, the Urus, revealed in early December, is anything to go by. It’s the sort of sports car you can take dune driving, or show off on the road in the city. It also boasts a new engine, a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8, that will offer improved fuel economy, is lightweight and provides low-end torque – 650 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque to be exact – which is the best weight-to-power ratio of any SUV currently on the market, making it the fastest SUV available. Reaching from 0 to 62mph in 3.6 seconds, 0 to 124mph in 12.8 seconds and a top speed of 190mph, it’s certainly showing its mettle.
What’s more, there is a plug-in hybrid version, as well. This iteration will only arrive in about a year, but it’s something to look forward to.
The new Urus is not only very fast; at less than $200,000, it’s not badly priced, either. And there won’t be that many Lamborghini Urus cars on the road initially. Only 1,000 units will be built at the automaker’s Sant’Agata Bolognese factory in 2018, and 3,500 are expected to be built the following year and every year thereafter. That is a lot of cars for Lamborghini, which usually only manufacturers around 3,500 of all its cars in any given year.
