The latest collaboration between Italian couture designer Dolce&Gabbana and Smeg appliances is ready to transform your kitchen into a kaleidoscope of color and chic. Baroque Access finds out all about what’s available in 2018
During the Milan Design Fair 2017, Dolce&Gabbana and Smeg unveiled their latest collaboration entitled ‘Sicily is my Love’. This colorful collection continues the ongoing collaboration between the two luxury brands, which started in 2016 with 100 limited edition FAB by Smeg fridges that were hand-painted by Siclian artists. These masterpices were sold at $50,000 each.
The new collection features small appliances adorned with Dolce&Gabbana’s signature colorful style, from toasters and citrus juicers to coffee machines, kettles and blenders to stand mixers and slow juicers. The Sicilian decorations include lemons, citrus fruit, prickly pears and bright red cherries as well as delicate floral motifs inspired by Sicily’s coastline and landscapes. The artists have created mini masterpieces, each of which will transform one’s kitchen.
Why Sicily, you ask? Well, the South of Italy is where Domenico Dolce grew up. In addition, both Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have strong ties to Sicily, and visit the island frequently. They also use references to Sicily in many of their iconic fashion collections. Their love of Sicily does not only center on the location, but also on their love for good food. Hence the collaboration with Smeg that has now led to this stunning range of exclusive kitchen appliances.
The inspiration for the entire range is Sicily’s breathtaking natural landscapes around Mount Etna and the Valley of the Temples, as well as the warm glow of the sun in the summer months, the turquoise waters of the ocean, the bright blooms that you’ll find in gardens as well as the intricate geometrical patterns that symbolize Sicily in all its beauty. Given a contemporary twist, it is chic, stylish and modern, a coveted collection that will add a stunning decorative element to any kitchen.
The breakfast set, comprising the citrus juicer, 2-slice toaster and electric kettle, has been available since March. These items cost $600 each. The rest of the collection will be available later this year. Whilst the range is available in the UK, at Harrods, Selfridges and at Smeg’s flagship London store, it is only recently available in the US. Smeg has promised to have the range available online soon.
