Dubai to Build the Largest Shopping Mall in the World

Just when you thought a trip through the vast Dubai Mall was an adventure, the city of Dubai has come up with another one, a shopping mall that will be the largest on Earth. Baroque Access finds out all the details.

Dubai Square is a new retail metropolis that will be located in Dubai Creek Harbor. Created by Dubai Holding and Emaar Properties, it will feature an integrated indoor and outdoor design that is almost twice the size of the Dubai Mall – it’s apparently going to be 30 million square feet, larger than 100 football pitches and spread across three levels.

Dubai is currently the fourth most visited destination on Earth, and the new shopping mall will make shopping in the city even more of a pleasure. Inspiration for this new retail and leisure destination came from researching leading shopping areas in major world cities, including London’s Oxford Street, Beverly Hills in Los Angeles, the Champs-Élysées in Paris, Tokyo’s Ginza and Florence’s Piazza della Republica.

The new Dubai Square will be linked directly through an underground extension to the Dubai Creek Tower. This vast shopping mall will offer something different from the traditional mall/retail experience, using innovative concepts to create a new experience for shoppers. This includes being able to choose how you shop – either online via desktop or mobile, or at a retail store. There will be various digital offerings such as custom-designed mobile apps, quick checkout solutions, search and barcode scanning applications, identification technology using radio frequency, mobile payment options and click-and-collect services.

The new Dubai Square will also house the largest Chinatown of its kind in the Middle East, as well as an events arena on the ground floor, a variety of event spaces on streets and in alleys as well as a four-lane boulevard on the first floor lined with numerous luxury retail, dining and leisure outlets. Restaurants in Dubai Square will offer every type of cuisine, and it’s believed that some will even offer 3D printed food. The fashion offerings will be enhanced with special VIP dressing rooms, smart fitting rooms with interactive mirrors, curated private fashion collections, 3D printed clothing and accessories, even fashion museums.

On the second floor, a family-friendly area will feature a selection of fun activities including Ice Adventure, a Cineplex, waterpark, sports arena, supermarket and a metro link. But that’s not all. The mall will include a futuristic entertainment arena with 3D projection mapping, theatrical sound and lighting, high wire rigging and other cutting-edge features. This will be for concerts and theatre shows, celebrity performances, acrobatics shows and museum-quality exhibitions.

Dubai Creek Harbour is to be located along the historic Dubai Creek in the heart of Dubai. It will feature a residential area, various retail and business centers, parks and open spaces as well as 24 hotels in total offering 5,800 rooms. When it’s completed, it will be home to more than 200,000 people.
