One of the most anticipated celebrations of classic and exotic automobiles in the world, 2018 Monterey Car Week is almost upon us. And one of the highlights of the show is sure to be North America’s first McLaren Senna. Baroque Ground has all the details.
Renowned for showcasing some of the most magnificent cars in the world, Monterey Car Week features numerous exciting events, including car rallies, car shows, auctions, car art and memorabilia exhibitions and foodie events. With its spectacular setting on the Monterey Peninsula, the event is a treat for the senses, a bucket-list experience.
Whilst the week features numerous exciting events, a highlight for 2018 (the show is on from 21 to 26 August) is going to be the unveiling of the ultimate supercar, North America’s first McLaren Senna, resplendent in an emerald ‘Fux Green’. One of the year’s most exciting vehicles, the McLaren Senna is owned by entrepreneur and car collector Michael Fux, who lives in New York City.
The Senna was initially named for iconic Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, who won three championships driving a McLaren. The car offers numerous, very impressive features including carbon fiber body panels and a carbon fiber Monocage III chassis. Of course, at $1 million per vehicle, you can expect only the best. And with that sort of price tag, you can expect it to be flashy, which is why its emerald green hue in the bespoke color called ‘Fux Green’ should come as no surprise.
The custom vehicle’s interior features matching green-tinted carbon fiber, white leather upholstery with green trim and a black Alcantara headliner. Door struts are painted green, as is the rear view mirror. This magnificent car powers on a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine capable of 789 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. When on the road, it sprints from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.7 seconds and has a top speed of 211 miles per hour. It also drives well on the track, thanks to its 1,763.7 pounds of down force.
Like other vehicles in the McLaren stable, the Senna features a carbon fiber ‘tub’ chassis that is common on racing cars. This model is mostly based on the 720S, but has a modified version of its carbon fiber monocoque and engine. It features some 67 distinct body components that take in the region of 1,000 hours to put together. The new Senna is limited to just 500 cars, all of which are already sold (a third have been bought by customers in the US).
Watch out for this exceptional vehicle when it is showcased at Monterey Car Week at The Quail on 24 August.
