Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone has teamed up with Swiss luxury watchmakers Richard Mille to create a million dollar timepiece. Baroque Access finds out all about it.
Sylvester Stallone’s brand new timepiece, entitled the Richard Mille RM 25-01 Tourbillon Adventure, is as its name implies – a watch to have adventures while wearing. It features an impressive selection of Rambo-worthy survival tools, including a level, compass and even a secret compartment that contains five water purification tablets.
Truly a horological UFO, the magnificent Richard Mille RM 25-01 Tourbillon Adventure is, as actor, producer and director Sylvester Stallone says, “Ready for action”. The iconic Stallone is famous for being a watch aficionado. In fact, his name is featured on a number of special edition watches including other Richard Mille timepieces.
But the new Rambo-styled watch created by Richard Mille is something else entirely. For starters, it came out of a friendship between Stallone and watchmaker Richard Mille himself. Also, it took Richard Mille’s engineers several months to optimize the watch caliber. They also managed to reduce its weight and increase its precision and reliability. According to Richard Mille, “Its development was especially slow and painstaking, and as an object it is completely in sync with the brand: extreme, designed for extreme conditions, useful, sophisticated and complex, yet unbelievably tough — the ultimate timepiece!”
This extraordinary timepiece is huge, at 50,85mm and 8,37mm thick. It features the same round shape as the RM 032 that Stallone wore in the movie, The Expendables 3. The watch’s base plates and bridges are created out of Grade 5 titanium. It features a titanium competition chronograph movement that is equipped with a tourbillon and a 24-hour display that differentiates between morning and night times.
There’s a tiny compartment at 2 o’clock where the five water purification tablets are located. Each makes a liter of water that is safe to drink within 30 minutes to 2 hours. The watch features a rubber strap with a camouflage design as well as a 70-hour power reserve and is water resistant to 100 meters. It comes with two interchangeable bezels.
The magnificent Richard Mille RM 25-01 Tourbillon Adventure is a very limited edition, with only 20 examples created, each with a hefty price tag of $980,000. Yes, it’s just short of a million dollars!
Surprisingly, Sylvester Stallone is an artist as well as a Hollywood legend, famous for his personal blend of testosterone and muscle. Some of his paintings have even been showcased at the Nice Museum of Contemporary Art. ‘”Painting, without a doubt, is the most honest form of all the arts.
