Sun and fun is the focus in Miami, but come December, design, in the form of Design Miami and other major iconic design initiatives, take center stage. Baroque Access finds out about the 14th dynamic edition of Design Miami
On trend and always ahead of the pack, Design Miami promises to offer even more in 2018, as the city celebrates the third anniversary of its iconic Design District. Come 5 December, galleries in the area will be showcasing their collectibles and design aficionados will fill the numerous creative hotspots stretching all the way from Mid-Beach to Ironside and beyond.
What’s more, Art Basel and Art Miami will be running concurrently with Design Miami, making this the perfect time to head for the city to celebrate all things creative. Design Miami, located next to the Miami Beach Convention Center and just a short walk from Art Basel in Miami Beach, is the global forum for design. Together with Art Basel and Art Miami, these three events bring together a selection of influential collectors, gallery owners, curators and critics from all over the globe who come to celebrate design culture and commerce.
Design Miami has become the premier venue for collecting, showcasing, discussing and creating collectible design pieces. It is where the top galleries in the world gather to present museum-quality exhibitions of 20th and 21st century furniture, lighting and objects d’art. Each of the shows on the schedule creates exciting collaborations with designers and design institutions, offers panels and lectures with luminaries from the worlds of design, architecture, art and fashion and showcases some of the world’s leading emerging and established designers and architects. So if you’re interested in finding out about modern and contemporary design or are looking for a collectible design, this is where you’ll find it.
Design Miami 2018 exhibitions will feature a reinvention of industrial materials, playful and whimsical designs, a focus on craft and process and immersive environments. These designs will be showcased in 33 galleries and 12 curio presentations that represent 12 countries. Viewers will see vivid use of color in many of the works, particularly those from Latin America. Some of the galleries will show works created using cutting-edge methods such as 3D printing and robotics.
