Chanel Au Ritz Massage Oils, already renowned as the fragrant oils used in body treatments at the Chanel Spa at the Paris Ritz, are now available for purchase. Baroque Access finds out all the details
Designer extraordinaire Gabrielle Chanel spent 34 years living at the iconic Ritz Paris Hotel. When the legendary hotel reopened after a major refurbishment last year, it had added an establishment to honor the famous fashion designer, a spa called Chanel Au Ritz, which is the only Chanel spa in the world.
Some of the signature Chanel products used at this magnificent spa are the Chanel Au Ritz Massage Oils, created specially to rejuvenate and pamper the body by Chanel using flowers from the Chanel gardens in the South of France, in Grasse. There are 4 iconic fragrant oils – L’Huile Rose, L’Huile Orient, L’Huile Vanille and L’Huile Jasmine – all of which have just become available for sale for use at home, selling at under $250 per 250ml bottle.
Each of these massage oils is 98 percent natural in origin. The most soothing of them all is the delicate, soft L’Huile Rose that offers a scent of rose and springtime blossoms blended with a woody base and exquisite white musk. The oil was created using May Rose, a rose with 100 petals and no thorns that is grown in the Chanel gardens in Grasse. The rose only lasts for one month, but its fragrance is exceptional. It blooms at dawn and fades by noon, so it has to be picked before the sun is at its height.
Completely different in character, L’Huile Orient is an oriental floral creation with spicy rose accents combined with notes of wood, benzoin and frankincense. The oil is known for being warm, relaxing and stress-relieving, is reminiscent of the Orient, and is found in all of Chanel’s oriental fragrances. Frankincense is warm, opulent and soothing, and this is prevalent in this enthralling fragrant oil.
The evocative scent of L’Huile Jasmin is floral, sensual and sweet with a woody base. The immaculate star-shaped white flowers are some of the most precious and delicate, with a prevalent sensuality. This oil is used in toning and revitalising body treatments – its blossoms are also used to create Chanel’s iconic No. 5 Parfum.
Last but not least, L’Huile Vanille is a delicate fragrant oil created from Madagascan vanilla (Vanilla Planifolia), lime blossoms, lily of the valley and sweet musk blended with amber. This particular type of vanilla is famous for its regenerating properties and is an active ingredient in all of Chanel’s magnificent skin products.
Those who wish to use these exceptional oils at home are not only in for a sensory treat when it comes to a bouquet of soft fragrances; the properties of each of the oils are exceptional. If you are keen to use them, remember: oils must be applied in a circular motion to help increase blood flow. If you wish to use an oil as a relaxing treatment, use gentle sweeps.
