Hawaii is magical any time of the year, but it’s particularly therapeutic during the year-end holidays. Rest, relax, and rejuvenate by soaking in the sun that radiates all year long. Not sure which island to choose? Plan a month and choose them all.
Not many people are aware that there are actually 137 islands in the Hawaiian chain. The archipelago is an area that contains a group of islands scattered in lakes, rivers, or the ocean. Most archipelagos are formed when volcanoes erupt from the ocean floor. These are called oceanic islands. The islands of Hawaii were formed by a series of volcanic eruptions that began more than 80 million years ago and are still active today. There are four main islands on the Big Island, Maui, Kauai, and Oahu, and the three smaller islands, including Moloka’i, Lana’i, and Koho’olawe, which welcome visitors.
Sail, Charter a Plane or a Helicopter
A leisurely sail allows friends, family, and guests to enjoy the ocean and the amenities of a privately chartered yacht until arrival at the island of choice. Confidently retire on the ship each night knowing that the vessel has been thoroughly sanitized. Dine-in your private dining room.
Feeling more adventurous? Charter a helicopter and enjoy some hiking in remote areas of the island of your choice. Experience the indescribable beauty of Maui. Mt. Haleakala is the world’s largest dormant volcano and covered with alpine-like forests. Millions of years of powerful natural forces have sculpted Kauai into a biological masterpiece. Na Pali Coast, Waimea Valley, known as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” and stunning Mount Waiʻaleʻale, the second wettest place on earth, are so remote, they are only accessible by helicopter.
Start 2021 With the Spirit of Aloha
Currently known as a Luau but traditionally called aha’aina, were at one time very restrictive. Before the 19th century, these feasts were only for royalty, and men and women dined separately. The progressive King Kamehameha II ended these outdated traditions. He commemorated the evolving sense of unity by honoring the societal changes being made, creating a new feast including women, making traditional food available to all, and referring to the event as a luau. Luau is the name of a tarot plant, and a key ingredient in one of the most popular dishes served at the feast. The traditional dish includes chicken and taro plant leaves cooked in coconut milk.
Release 2020 with the ancient Japanese tradition, still honored in Hawaii today, of mochi pounding. Mochi is smooth, soft, and chewy eaten alone or wrapped around ice cream. Mochi pounding involves an intricate balance of movement, coordination, and collaboration. Necessary skills that will carry us all through 2021. Mochi is made by first soaking rice for days. Large ceremonial mallets are then used to pound the rice, ultimately creating mochi. Pounders will take swift, strong, alternate swings while a third person kneads the doughy mass between strokes. Avoiding being hit by the swing of a mallet requires skill and agility. Not up for trying it? It’s a joy just to watch.
Close the Hawaiian experience by playing the ukulele. Even those that are not musically inclined find that they can quickly learn to strum their favorite songs on a ukulele. The name ukulele means jumping fleas in Hawaiian because watching one pluck the strings was thought to look like fleas jumping. The ukulele’s soft nylon strings are gentler on the fingertips than a guitar or mandolin. The small size reduces wrist tension because notes can be played without stretching.
Enjoy the full mystical experience of the great Hawaiian islands by immersing in the wonders of the volcanoes, hiking trails, tropical flowers, exotic trees and foliage, native food, ancient traditions, and joyful music. Greet 2021 with the spirit of Aloha and watch the magic of the future unfold.
