Megève is one of the most famous ski resorts in the French Alps – and this December it welcomes a brand new hotel, the Four Seasons Hotel Megève. Baroque Travel has all the details
The only hotel located directly on the famous slopes of Mont d’Arbois, Four Seasons Hotel Megève opens on 15 December through to 15 April for the coming winter season, and from 1 June to 30 September for summer vacations. This is Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts’ first mountain destination in Europe – and it’s quite spectacular.
Designed to resemble a modern Alpine chalet, the hotel is small by Four Seasons standards – there are just 55 spacious rooms including 14 suites. Most accommodation boasts a fireplace and a balcony overlooking the mountains. Other facilities include a spacious, state-of-the-art spa and a choice of winter resort activities on the ski slopes and stunning hiking and golf opportunities in the summer months.
Megève has an excellent reputation for its superb restaurants and the new hotel will add to visitors’ choices of great places to eat, with a choice of five indoor-outdoor options for both dining and drinking including the restaurant Le 1920, which boasts two Michelin Stars. The restaurant, which has relocated to the hotel, offers breakfast, a sushi bar, fireplace and an elegant outdoor terrace. There’s also Bar Edmund, a sophisticated setting for savoring fine wines and creatively crafted cocktails, and a Cigar Room with an all-glass enclosure and fireplace where guests can enjoy the finest cigars, cognacs, brandies and whiskies with breathtaking mountain views. Then there’s the Wine Cellar, available for private wine-tasting experiences and dinners.
As anyone who has enjoyed a ski vacation knows, there’s more than one highlight. Sure, the skiing and snowboarding is superb, but the Apres Ski life is just as fabulous and the hotel offers numerous indulgent offerings as well as an in-house Ski Concierge and Ski Valet service. The resort’s vast ski region is divided into several skiing areas, including Mont D’Arbois, Rochebrune and Le Jaillet. The new hotel is located at the foot of the Mont D’Arbois mountain, and offers access to 136 groomed runs, a total of 445km. That’s not counting another 30km of groomed cross-country trails.
Hotel guests enjoy a privileged existence during ski season, thanks to the Ski Concierge and Ski Valet. Before going skiing, guests head to the hotel lobby where the Ski Concierge has all their gear ready – boots are warmed and skis expertly waxed and tuned to the day’s specific conditions and guests’ personal preferences. Before hitting the slopes, they are offered complimentary muffins and hot chocolate, tea or coffee. The Ski Valet then carries their skis to the lifts so that they can embark on their skiing adventure.
Of course, those who want to do more than just ski and snowboard can also enjoy glacier snowshoeing, paragliding, hot air balloon rides, heli-skiing and dog sledding. In addition, beginners can learn to ski and more advanced skiers can brush up on their skills through lessons arranged by the hotel at the Ecole Ski Francais.
