This glamorous and historic New York landmark gets a brand new penthouse suite. Baroque Travel has all the details
Originally built in 1926 in Midtown Manhattan, the InterContinental New York Barclay is one of the city’s iconic hotels. Built as part of the Grand Central Terminal’s urban design plan, the hotel was part of the Midtown Manhattan’s renaissance and became extremely popular among the New York social set.
And now this historic hotel has a brand new penthouse that adds to its already unmatchable cachet. First came a massive refurbishment that was completed in April 2016, and now, adding to the hotel’s iconic status is the new ultra luxe 16th floor penthouse.
Let’s not forget – this 1926 hotel already has a Presidential Suite that few can afford (unless they are prepared to pay $25,000 per night). But the latest addition is even more sumptuous, with a well-appointed 1,300-square-foot terrace and floor to ceiling windows in the living area offering views of the Chrysler Building. But that’s not all. Named after the hotel’s most famous long-standing resident, Harold S. Vanderbilt, the hotel boasts an exquisite chandelier in the living room, with two armchairs in front of a beautiful gas-log fire. There are two bedrooms, three full bathrooms, an open plan design, exquisite furnishings and numerous facilities.
Guests can enjoy in-room massage, bespoke drinks in the liquor cabinet, a full size fridge, a personal chef if you need one, big screen TV on the terrace and every other facility available to the rest of the guests who enjoy being looked after at this superlative establishment. We’re talking about a gym, limo/town car service, 24-hour front desk, Gin Parlor, even a massive birdcage in the entrance lobby.
Talking of the Gin Parlor… located within is the Gin Parlor Restaurant, a sophisticated yet casual space offering New York-inspired culinary delights for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
What sets the InterContinental New York Barclay apart from other luxury hotels is its apartment-style living. Guests can choose from one of the two penthouses, a suite or a standard room. No matter where you stay, you will enjoy superb accommodation and refined service. Of course, the brand new penthouse is the cream of the crop.
