The popular ski resort of Gstaad in the Swiss Alps is magnificent all year round, but come ski season, it boasts a special kind of magic. Baroque Travel finds a haven there to call home this winter

It’s hard to call it a home away from home, because HUUS Gstaad is the sort of place you’d like to call ‘home’ forever. Located in a spectacular Alpine setting between Saanen and Gstaad in the Bernese Oberland, it’s warm, welcoming, gracious and cosy. And did we mention luxurious?

Once an elegant Swiss chalet, the structure has been transformed into an elegant, contemporary hotel with all the trimmings. HUUS Gstaad retains the cosy warmth of a chalet and the magical atmosphere of an Alpine retreat. Guests enjoy the spectacular scenery through floor-to-ceiling windows, and most of the 136 guest rooms also offer a balcony or terrace.

The hotel boasts 4 excellent restaurants, renowned as some of the best places to dine in the area. Overseen by Head Chef Giuseppe, the restaurants offer a modern blend of contemporary Swiss and Italian cuisine. There’s La Vue, which, as its name suggests, offers superb dining experiences with equally stunning views of the forests outside and the kitchen inside. The HUUS Gstaad Restraurant is where breakfast is served – and with a choice of 7 different international breakfast menus and more than 200 options, that’s a wide selection!

The Stollen is open Thursdays to Saturdays, with a wine and tapas menu that features excellent cheeses and deli delights sourced locally and seasonally. Last but not least, there’s Chalet HÜÜSLI, where guests can enjoy traditional Swiss fondues and raclettes served next to an open fire. The hotel also features a bar.

HUUS Gstaad offers guests various all-inclusive activities for an active winter vacation. There’s sledding, guided winter walking tours and snowshoe hiking tours – and, of course, the skiing is great. The hotel even has its own ski school and it’s ideally located close to the Schönried Cable Car, which is 2.5 km away. In addition, guests enjoy a free shuttle service to and from the ski slopes.

For relaxation, there’s the hotel spa that offers every possible rejuvenating facility, from aromatic saunas and ice fountains to herbal steam baths, hydrotherapy and swimming in the vast indoor pool. The hotel gym, also located here, is state-of-the-art, with a full range of training equipment. It also offers yoga classes. In addition, guests can enjoy massages and facials and the use of a sun bed.

HUUS Gstaad is kid-friendly, too it offers a children’s spa and a playground, games room and billiards.

To make guests feel right at home, the living room is the heart of the establishment, a comfortable spot where guests can relax, read a book by the fire, or socialize.
